Police List Hotlines for Misconduct Reports After Dialogue
The Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ọmọ’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, on Sunday 21st September 2025, facilitated a peace dialogue between the Nigerian Police Force and youths of the community following rising concerns over alleged harassment by some police tactical teams within the LCDA and its environs.
The meeting, held at the Ikorodu Divisional Police Headquarters, was attended by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Akinola Clement, alongside other senior officers. It provided a platform for frank discussions on the strained relations between operatives and residents, particularly in Ijede, Imota, and Igbe, where reports of intimidation and harassment had recently sparked tension.
Youth representatives at the meeting voiced grievances over alleged misconduct by some operatives, stressing that while young people support the fight against crime, officers must adopt a more professional and civil approach in their operations. They also appealed for stronger collaboration between security agencies and the community.
Responding, DPO Clement acknowledged the reports and assured that efforts were underway to address the issues. He said the Lagos State Commissioner of Police had already shown interest in reforming police–community relations across Ikorodu Division.
CSP Amos Ibrahim of the Ijede Police Division also pledged to respond swiftly to public complaints, stressing that extortion, brutality, and intimidation must give way to civil policing that prioritises the safety of lives and property.
After extensive deliberations, the meeting resolved to suspend a planned youth protest and instead adopt measures to strengthen communication channels between security agencies and the community. It was also agreed that inappropriate actions by officers should be promptly reported to designated police contacts for decisive response.
Some of the officers listed for direct contact in cases of misconduct include CSP Akinola Clement (Ikorodu DPO), CSP Akinyemi Idowu (Area Crime Officer, Area N), CSP Amos Ibrahim (P.O, Ijede), SP Godwin Akogun (Tactical Team, Igbela), and other senior operatives within the division.
Chairman Aroyewun, who commended the Nigerian Police Force for their responsiveness, also praised the leadership of the Youths of the LCDA for their maturity and constructive engagement throughout the process.
Our administration remains fully committed to proactive consultation, timely intervention, and building stronger partnerships with security agencies. We believe that only through genuine collaboration can we guarantee peace, safety, and progress for our people,” Chairman Ọmọ’ba Hammed Aroyewun stated.”
CSP Clement in his remarks applauded the Chairman for his proactive stance, describing his constant consultations on matters of public safety as key to preventing a breakdown of law and order. He added that Aroyewun’s timely interventions had fostered mutual understanding between the police and the youths, laying the groundwork for more coordinated security management in the LCDA.
