The Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has announced a Thursday media interaction in Lagos to inform the public on the state of affairs even as it also raised concerns over shut down of telecom facilities in Kogi state – an action connected to case of double taxation.
ALTON is the umbrella body for all telecom operators in Nigeria.
“The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) Press Conference scheduled to hold on Thursday, 31st March, 2022 to discuss issues affecting the telecoms industry in recent times: the high cost of diesel and the Kogi State Shutdown of Telecoms Infrastructure,” according to ALTON’s Head, Operations, Gbolahan Awonuga in an email to IT Edge News.
PayTV giant Multichoice recently increased its monthly tariff by over 21% blaming it on inflation and a mix of socio-economic factors.
According to Chairman, ALTON, Gbenga Adebayo, the telecoms industry feeds heavily on diesel and has had to sustain its operations on more than three times the original cost.
These are unhappy times, the ALTON chairman, said.
