Pantami To Unveil Brand Identity, Brain-Trust And Core Values Of Nigeria’s New Data Bureau

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, will Tuesday 5th April, 2022 in Abuja, formally launch the logo, website and core values of  Nigeria’s data protection agency.

This is a follow up to the creation of the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) by President Muhammadu Buhari last February 2022 and the appointment of  Dr. Vincent Olatunji as the pioneer National Commissioner/CEO of the bureau.

Meanwhile, IT Edge News learnt of the formation of the Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan Committee of the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau, a think factory consisting of experts from the public and private sectors to help drive the roadmap for the bureau and Nigeria’s data protection industry. 

The Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) was issued in January 2019 pursuant to Section 6 (a,c) of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Act 2007.

The NDPR is the current national law on data protection in Nigeria. It applies to public and private sector processing of personal data within and outside Nigeria.

The Regulation is aimed at protecting the right to privacy, creating the right environment for digital transactions, job creation and improving information management practices in Nigeria.

The NDPB is expected to assumed expressed authority as the Regulatory Authority for Data Protection aims at innovating data protection management through inclusive regulatory strategies, partnerships and continuous improvement.

According to the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, “The Bureau will be responsible for consolidating the gains of the NDPR and supporting the process for the development of a primary legislation for data protection and privacy.”
