As part of the activities surrounding this year's Igbogbo Day Celebration, the Igbogbo Day Planning Sub-Committee earlier today hosted a press conference and group draws for the 2024 Adeboruwa Cup football competition. The event, which took place at the Oba Fatola Pavilion in the Adeboruwa Palace was attended by team representatives, football enthusiasts, football experts and officials and community leaders, all eager to witness the unveiling of the competition's format and the teams that will battle for supremacy.
During the press conference, questions were raised about the tournament’s rules, the eligibility of players, and expectations for the competition. Each team had their respective representatives in attendance, ensuring that key issues such as sportsmanship, refereeing, and disciplinary actions were addressed. The committee reassured all participants that fair play would be prioritized and that the competition was designed to foster unity within the community.
The group draws, a key highlight of the event, saw the 32 teams split into eight groups, each poised to compete fiercely for a spot in the knockout stages. Below are the groupings for the 2024 Adeboruwa Cup:
