The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), Omo'ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, has led well-wishers in celebrating Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun on his 88th birthday. He described the elder statesman as a father, mentor and "guiding light" to generations of public servants in Lagos State and across Nigeria.

In a goodwill message issued to mark the occasion, Aroyewun said Basorun embodies "the finest virtues of leadership, integrity, vision, humility, and service." He added that the elder statesman's contributions to Lagos State's development and the political stability the state enjoys today are immeasurable.

The Chairman traced Basorun's career of public service, noting that he was born and raised in Igbogbo and has continued to give back to the community. He was a pioneer staff member of the Central Bank of Nigeria, where he rose to Deputy Director. He later served as Secretary to the Lagos State Government and sat on the Governance Advisory Council. Aroyewun also noted his calling in the house of God.

"You taught us that leadership is measured not by noise but by character, and that service is a lifelong commitment," Aroyewun said. "Many of us stand stronger and taller today because you gave us the chance to learn from you and build upon your example."

Speaking personally, the Chairman said Basorun is "much more than a political leader," describing him as his father and mentor. He said the elder statesman's counsel, "often concise and always very powerful," continues to guide him in his personal life and in the administration of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA. He pledged to uphold the progressive ideals and integrity Basorun personifies.

Aroyewun thanked him for his counsel, prayers and fatherly guidance, noting that his doors and heart have always been open. He prayed that God would grant him sound health, a sharp mind, joy in his family and many more peaceful years surrounded by loved ones.

The Chairman closed the message by wishing a happy birthday to the "great encyclopedia and our most adored enigma, Pàramọ́lẹ̀ tó kọ́ro ìwòsí."
